People who are unsuccessful in getting a ticket through the ballot can wait in The Queue to buy a grounds pass (£28) for that day which allows you to see action on courts 3-18. You are allowed to bring your own food and drinks. But if you don’t, there is food available for purchase. Bring a book, a phone charger, a raincoat, food, and drink and you’ll be set for the hours long wait (don’t worry, there are public toilets). It might sound boring but it can be quite fun and well worth it. Once you’re in the grounds, two must haves (besides watching excellent tennis) are strawberries and cream and a Pimm’s.

Fun fact: Wimbledon, which takes place at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC), was originally founded exclusively for croquet.
