On the left is a waterwheel fed by canal water from the Alps. Up top is the Festung Holdensalzburg (fortress). You can just make out the funicular that can take you up to the fortress. It is thought that the Plague didn’t hit Salzburg as hard because the streets were washed periodically with the water fed from the Alps.

Fun fact: Although much of the movie is dramatized, the Von Trapp's were a singing family who did live in Salzburg. Some of the movie was filmed in Salzburg.
