Fun fact: In the mid-1900s Iceland increased their fishing jurisdiction. The British did not take kindly to this and sent warships along with their fishing trawlers. Thus began the Cod Wars. Things escalated with further expansion of Iceland’s fishing jurisdiction, Iceland’s use of cable cutters on encroaching fishing vessels, and the British attempt to sink an Icelandic guard boat. The dispute ended in the mid-1970s.
