What do you do with a long layover in Amsterdam?

Catch the train to the city center, have a look around, and grab a bite to eat.

Dam Square is where the Amstel River was first dammed in 1250 creating a village that has now become a city known around the world.

Since 1346 Begijnhof has sheltered women who devote themselves to god, although they are not nuns.

Fun fact: In the 1500s, due to the sweeping Protestant reformation, Catholics in Amsterdam were forced to worship in private. Catholic churches were allowed as long as they were plain buildings.
